I’ve started a blog on Food Blog. Here’s my first post, A quick introduction. It’s going to contain quick reviews of individual dishes, recipes, and my thoughts on food. I’m still going to keep the restaurant news and reviews for Examiner.com.
Also, I’ve taken the Goodreads 2011 Challenge. I’m going to attempt to read 100 books this year. I’ll keep you posted on my progress!
My new blog is up and running. Click here to go to:
On my new blog (don’t be alarmed, this one will by no means be abandoned) I’m going to share my opinions on local sports: Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cav’s, Cleveland Indians, Akron Aero’s, and… whatever the hockey team is called now, oh wait, the Lake Erie Monsters. Don’t expect play by play or game descriptions. This is going to feature my opinions on things only.
I know I promised some sort of organizational tip today, but I’m in the middle of a very busy (crazy!) week and haven’t really had a chance to think about it. So that might be delayed until next week.
But I do have some updates and announcements and things pertaining to my writing world. I’m starting a new blog pertaining to sports. It’s going to focus more on my opinions and less on actual play-by-play. After all, everyone knows that I have plenty of opinions! I’m not sure what to call it yet, since the best title that I came up with is already taken. Maybe “Crazy Mandy Talks Sports?” I don’t know. Any suggestions?
I have a million other ideas and projects in the works, and a bunch of reviews to post on my Cleveland Restaurants Examiner site. Basically, just a TON of things and huge to-do list.
I’m sorry this post is so boring, but I just feel the need to blab about all of my deadlines to relieve some of the stress!
Posts coming soon to this blog:
- How I slowly became a football fan
- Tomorrow awesome beef stew (food post!)
- What I want for Christmas (but won’t get)
- My thoughts on eBooks VS real books
- A history of video games – my personal perspective
Things coming soon to the Examiner:
- Review of Angelo’s Diner
- Review of Tequila Pancho’s
- Review of Five Guys Burgers and Fries (first in a series of burger joints)
- Info on next week’s Winterfest on Public Square
Now, I need a break. I’ve been on my computer for five hours straight!
As you can see, my blog has a new look! I received an email this afternoon from WordPress, informing me that my old theme – PressRow – was being retired in two weeks, and that my blog would be transferred over to its replacement. I had to check out the new one, Pilcrow, and liked it so much that I switched it right away.
As much as I loved the old theme, the new one has newer, cooler features – one being the background. I can set it to whatever I want. I can also change the sidebars – move them from the right side to the left, or set them up in a double-row. But I won’t. Just changing the background is enough for now. I hope to someday design a new banner headline, but I love my airplane shot, so I’m keeping it.
What do you think of the new design?
When I was in college I took a class called Advanced Composition. My first assignment was to read Annie Dillard’s “The Writing Life” and write a paper in response to it. My paper started out with the basics: I wrote my first short story at age 7; went to my first writing workshop at 12 (a summer-long playwriting workshop at the Cleveland Playhouse); participated in the Power of the Pen essay competition at 13 (and didn’t win squat); blah blah blah… The gist of it is, writing for me is like breathing. It’s just something I do.
Since I have minimal drawing skills and a very weird imagination, if I weren’t a writer, I probably would’ve turned to crime or something. 🙂
Seriously though, it makes my day when I get a bit of recognition. Like when this happens: Original Steaks and Hoagies (the restaurant I reveiwed last month for the Examiner) put a link to my review on the home page of their website. Check it out here. It’s the little things and small accomplishments that make my day.
I figured out long ago that writing fiction isn’t for me. I’ve tried to write short stories (actually, I’m not fond of reading them, let alone writing them) and it’s just something I can’t do. My attempts at fiction stand out like personalised number plates in a parking lot. Not particularly good, not horribly bad – just different!
I’m more of a non-fiction/memoir/news story/article/blog person. I’ve been writing for over 20 years (that sounds scary, until I realize that I’m only 31 and am some sort of weirdo “prodigy” or something), and I’ve only recently been able to admit that to myself. Imagine what I’ll be writing 20 years from now!
(We’ll probably all be “wrtng n txt spk” by then.)
Along with the plethora of freelance writing and editing jobs that I’m balancing, I’ve decided to tackle NaBloPoMo again. Last month I made it almost halfway, before I threw in the towel, so hopefully this month will be better.
Last month’s Script Frenzy was an epic failure. The only thing I managed to accomplish on the play I was planning on finishing was to download a free trial of Final Draft (script writing software, for those not in the know.) I’m not giving up though. I think I might try to work on it when I get the chance.
My new blog is up and running. I am now one of the Cleveland Indians bloggers for BaseballFandom.com.
BaseballFandom is running a contest, and the blogger with the most hits each month wins $100, so click here to read my column and keep coming back for more! (And send your friends, please.)
