DROID does?

I just activated my new phone. I went from an Samsung Omnia 2 windows phone (and piece of crap) to the Droid X. So far all I’ve done is curse the fact that I couldn’t use Back Up Assistant on my old phone, so I have to load all of my contacts in by hand. One at a time. (I’m apologizing in advance for calling everybody by mistake as I hit the wrong buttons.)

So far all I’ve done is add 3 phone numbers and about 15 apps. One of the coolest by far is Google Sky Map (and it’s FREE!) In case you haven’t heard of it, it looks up your location via GPS and then gives you a map that tells you which stars and constellations are above your head. All you have to do is hold your phone up and watch as everything aligns. Of course it’s November in Ohio, so odds are it’ll be too cloudy to test it out tonight, but I like having it anyway.

Another cool one is HomePipe. All you need to do is go to HomePipe.net and download it on your computer, then download the app onto your phone. It moves all of your documents into a digital “cloud” so they can be accessed from your cell phone, iPad or another computer.  I like that idea. I’m forever forgetting to download things and send them to my dad (sorry!) so this way I can just zap them to him from my phone when he reminds me for the upteenth time about those air show photos.

The best thing about the Droid X is the sheer amount of memory that it comes with. My Omnia 2 came with squat. You could add a memory card to it (and I did) but I wasn’t able to save apps to the card, so the teeny tiny hard drive filled up quickly. With my Droid, I don’t have to worry about it. Heck, it even came with a Kindle app! Now I need to buy an ebook so I can test it out. Hmmm… decisions, decisions.

(Disclaimer – I bought the phone myself and was not paid in any way by either Verizon or Google or anyone else for that matter. These are my opinions and if I want to drool incessantly over my new toy, I will.)
